Evolution Eden: Press

Evolution Eden is the name of the band coming from San Francisco and engaging in melodic rock. "Story
Road" was released in 2006 and
the CD consists of fourteen tracks featuring pretty good sounds, sometimes roaring and sometimes more delicate with a
recipe which is both simple and effective at the same time: pleasing melodies and nice to be listened to.
A good shot indeed, direct and full of energy.

There are many interesting songs, such as the initial Ordinary Girl, Puppet On a String which is energetic and powerful, with a strong voice and the enchanting Summer Nights ballad. Radioactive is an engaging hard rock song and other good tracks are New Horizon and From the Ground Up.

Story Road is an album played with the right expression, which does not promise any kind of expertise, but yet it does produce very good music to listen to.
Now we just have to wait for the new album to be released, which is being mixed by Beau Hill (Ratt Winger, Warrant and many others).

Looking at this album one has to enjoy it, no matter what. If you are a fan of classic rock there's something here for you, if you are into more of a modern / pop feel then again you have something here as well. I made some comparisons in the review itself that way everyone can get an idea of what the band sounds like.

I liked the direction of the album in terms of a storyline, it was the transitions that had me shaking my head. Now again, they weren't all bad but there were spots that didn't seem right. My feeling is, if you have a rock track and you follow it up with a ballad you are just asking for trouble on a studio release. I always look for a mid tempo tune that takes your ears down a notch and then eases you into a ballad. Again this is all personal choice and for the most part not many care about this as much as I do.

Now I for one love guitars in albums, which is definitely something that is lost in mainstream music today. So when listening to this disc, you receive a full collection of different styles of the guitar. There's some killer solos, but it is the drop-in's found in the background of many of the songs that really made the album standout.

Overall this was a nice album to listen to, I had very little issues with it and the ones I did have can easily be corrected as the band moves forward in their career. If there were more albums like this one out in the market today I think more radio stations today would take note and actually get Rock back on the mainstream map. Story Road is an album that contains so many elements one can't help but he consumed by its overall sense of music spirit and the enjoyment of it all.
EVOLUTION EDEN - STORY ROAD (Indy)

Coming out of the San Francisco Bay Area is a new melodic rock outfit Evolution
Eden. Their new debut album ‘Story Road’ draws on energetic melodic rock songs
like the excellent sing-along, guitar fuelled fun of ‘Puppet on a String’ which
has a distinct Sammy Hagar feel.

Meanwhile, the vocals from main men Brandon Owen and Mike Pappas on ‘Ain’t It Funny’ flux with
similarities to Joe Elliot, whilst the music associates itself with modern rock
compositions coupled with fiery Richie Sambora influences playing from guitarist
Brandon Owen.

‘Radioactive’ for me rocks, it is the best song that will get the girls dancing
around their handbags down at the clubs, and I may just have to join them.
‘Radioactive’ is a hybrid of Def Leppard and Bon Jovi, the chorus is catchy, fun
and bouncy, and you’ll love it..

The melodic radio friendly ‘New Horizon’ shows a refined style from the band, whilst
the chunky ‘From The Ground Up’ signals a Night Ranger vibe. The ballad ‘Love
Goes Something Like This’ makes me think of Johnny Lima and Talon.

‘Story Road’ is a strong debut, the production is solid for a self financed
release and I’m sure the boys can gain some label interest and get ST released
domestically, a very good start. In the meantime hop over and check them out at

My name is Peter Merrett and l am the music manager for the Melbourne Australia radio station PBS FM. We are one of the biggest independent radio stations down here in Australia. My position here is to source the best music from around the world, we love to make artists and labels from overseas who would be unknown here into known artists. We have just received your release "Story Road". This is certainly a stunning cd indeed, possessing a gutsy virtuosity and groove with outstanding interpretations of really outstanding compositions. As we have the most popular, in fact the only Guitar based show in this city l am absolutely sure that this cd will receive some very good air-time and deservedly so.

As with all the music that comes to the station we listen to it, then allocate to the show that we feel it is most suitable for and one that will best promote the artist and label. After numerous listens, well we were enjoying it that much that we needed a listen or two before we handed it to Steve Passiouras's "Fret Net" program playing Tuesdays from 7pm to 8pm. Steve is highly regarded in the scene here in Melbourne. In this city his is a very popular show so l know his listeners will love this cd. We thank-you for the wonderful music and welcome you to Melbourne Australia.

Evolution Eden is a new trio hailing from north central California. Story Road is their debut release.

The band’s bio states the following:

“Mix the screaming guitars and big vocals of Def Leppard with the story telling of Bon Jovi. Toss in the take no prisoners attitude of Nickelback and the pop sensibilities of the Goo Goo Dolls and this gives you an idea of the excitement around the band Evolution Eden.”

This says everything you need to know about the music. It’s pretty standard modern rock, with slightly bluesy vocals and arena rock structures. There’s very little in the band’s sound, arrangements, songs, what have you, that separates them from the hundreds of rock bands just like them that are toiling away in bars and rock clubs across the Unites States. They’re perfectly adequate at what they do, and given time, could very well land a recording contract on a major or larger independent label and get some reasonable national airplay and attention. There’s simply nothing here that I haven’t heard dozens of times before.

Evolution Eden’s production is nice and punchy, and the songs do pop nicely from the speakers. Being a trio, their arrangements tend to be a bit more stripped down, and as such bass, drums and guitar do get plenty of room to breathe and develop their own space. Instrumentally, Andy Hewett’s bass playing and the dual guitar work by Mike Pappas and Branden Owen lock together well; guitars are crunchy during rhythm parts and cutting on solos. Vocals are blues-based and pretty emotive, doing a good job of selling the listener on the song.

It’s difficult to pick highlights here; the songs are consistent. Ultimately, the best way to describe Story Road is that this is inoffensive modern rock at its most typical and standard. Turn on any modern/classic rock station, and I can assure you that a handful of tracks from this release could easily be fit into the play list. Evolution Eden is a solid if unspectacular rock band, and Story Road is an enjoyable if unchallenging listen.
First Impressions were OH NO another Metal band, but when I played the CD..I was wrong. great piano and guitar work gave this Cd the base it comes from. The track Summer Nights is currently at # 46 on our top 200 list. Keep up the great work, and looking forward to more throughout this year 2007. Thanks from the team here at Soundwave FM

Evolution Eden presented themselves to me as a local band. It was only after I listened to the their album over and over again that I realized they actually had accomplished something rare. The sound was crisp, clean and commercially ready in my opinion. Although the music struck me as dated 80's classic rock period material, upon closer examination the lyrics are powerfully relevant to many contemporary rock listeners. I am sure with good promotional exposure they will find more loyal fans. The band also has an added advantage of being professional on and off the stage. A veteran in the Rock scene was present when they played and he made some comments about how together this band really is. The positive attitudes I found in the members of Evolution Eden are a welcomed asset to a growing live Rock scene here in the Bay Area.

The three guys from California do rock and it cranks and by doing so, they orientate themselves to the likes of Bon Jovi, Def Leppard, and comparable bands. With this concept Evolution Eden has already won the "Best Music You've Never Heard" -KGO- Contest.

Each song on "Story Road" tells a story and they, compared with their idols, are off to a profound start.

However, on the technical side there is a weak point here or there. One time the drums/percussions are limping behind a bit, or once in a while the singing sounds off keyed. In between, accused the too small studio budget, the heavy sound though proper, has too less bite. Nevertheless, the positives aspects of the music ovebalances the production: Brandon Owen, Mike "Pap" Pappas and Andy Hewett are confident Rockers, the song "Walls of Wonderland" shows their potential and the song writing has enough content and meaning.

The "Story Road," that also decorates the cover-photo, directs in a future, which for sure involves playing live. These three Rockers need to be seen live, and when they record their next album, Evolution Eden will convince even more fans. So, ready go: Play, play play.

The songs are strong and there are some interesting arrangements here. Definitely a player...

Awesome debut CD. My personal rating would be 4.5 out of 5 stars for the entire album. Guess a couple of tracks will be added to the rotation... Regards Michael

This is an interesting cd, somehow different than I expected. It's good to hear a group not afraid of being a little derivitive, that is to bring into the 2000's a sense of the '60s - '70s three piece powerhouse band, without giving up originality. We can use a little of this to break the heavy catalog of acoustic music that is happening right now. Nice work, don't stop now Bill Ashford The Rock Garden Warp Radio freeformrock.com

Not too heavy, not too light, this is metal at its best. The rock roots are still there, but this is definitely metal! Good vocals, good sound and a good band.
